Explore the sound healing possibilities of the Native American Flute at your Reiki Share and Flute Circle
Join us for an evening of Reiki healing at our Reiki Share and Wellness Center with Reiki Master Teacher Lourdes Gray (5:00 to 7:00 pm), and musical exploration with expert facilitation by musician and Native American Flute instructor John Willard (7:00 to 9:00 pm).
A flute circle is a gathering of people who meet regularly to learn, play, share, or simply enjoy the music of the Native American flute.
Flute circles welcome all levels of flute-playing skill: from beginner to experienced; it is a gathering for anyone interested in the Native American flute. Most flute circles embrace a philosophy of improvisation and ‘playing from the heart.’ Flutes will be provided at no charge. Absolutely NO experience is necessary to access the healing energy of these instruments.
Your Native American Flute Workshop Leader
Your workshop leader, John Willard considered himself a life-long “Musical Dummy” until he started to play the NAF just a few years ago. In third grade, John was dismissed from his recorder and band class. Subsequently, he was requested to “sing more softly” and to refrain from picking up any musical instrument, lest he damage the instrument or the ears of anyone nearby. Fortunately, many years later he heard the NAF music of Grammy Winner Carlos Nakai.
John has since studied with master musicians at The Flutehaven and Zion Canyon Schools. He has facilitated many hours of mixed-level small and large group playing and improvising. Within the last year, he was fortunate to perform onstage on a couple of occasions with three different Grammy nominees. He recently completed his first non-commercial CD, Winter Solstice 2016.
In John’s words, “ The music and sound of the flute went right through me, enhancing an awakening longing for connection with nature and the divine”. Years later a flute found its way to him, and he began to explore. Playing to trees and animals, using the treeline or clouds as musical scores, he would become skilled at “playing from the heart”.
Under John’s guidance you will experience the mystical and healing sides of sound. Many listeners have commented on the strong depth and feeling that shines into and through his playing. As always, he acknowledges that this is not him, but a finer form that graces the moment–the player simply a willing instrument.
“When John told me he could show me how to play the NAF in just 15 minutes, I could only laugh, since I could have been one of the founding members of the “Musical Dummies” Club. Imagine my astonishment, when just 10 minutes later I was making beautiful sound with this magical instrument” Bill Whyte, Founder Badger Balm, Gilsum NH
