About Reiki …

"Reiki" (pronounced "ray-key"), is the Japanese word for "Universal Life Energy." This energy is all around us and we can channel it. An ancient healing art, Reiki is a simple method of hands on healing developed in the 1920’s by Mikao Usui of Kyoto, Japan. The system was passed, hand to hand, from Mikao Usui, to naval surgeon, Dr. Chujiro Hayashi. Dr. Hayashi, in turn, passed the teachings down to a Japanese-American woman, Mrs. Hawayo Takata, who introduced the system to the West. The Reiki energy flows through the hands of the practitioner and into the person being treated, enhancing and accelerating the natural healing processes in the body. Reiki helps to restore balance and harmony and promotes the relaxation response. Anyone can easily learn Reiki.

About the Center …

The John Harvey Gray Center for Reiki Healing was established by John Harvey Gray and Dr. Lourdes Gray in 1996. The Center was created in order to empower and develop the student’s capacity for healing using the most thorough training available ‘with no cut corners’ taken in teaching the Reiki system as it was taught by Mrs. Hawayo Takata. John Harvey Gray received his entire Reiki training from Hawayo Takata. He is one of the original 22 Reiki Master Teachers trained by her. He is also the longest-practicing Reiki instructor in the Western Hemisphere. Over the course of thirty years, he has taught over 900 Reiki classes and trained more than 15,000 students.

The mission of our Center is to preserve the teachings of Mikao Usui, Chujiro Hayashi and Hawayo Takata, and at the same time, to further expand on those teachings; to offer a comprehensive system of training based on John Harvey Gray’s vast storehouse of knowledge and experience in teaching and practicing Reiki and Dr. Lourdes Gray’s many years of deep, concentrated training with John Harvey Gray as well as her own extensive experience in teaching and practicing the Reiki system of natural healing.

Dr. Lourdes Gray is the sole successor and lineage bearer in The John Harvey Gray Center for Reiki Healing. Dr. Gray is also the Center’s director.

The knowledge and experience of both of these teachers has been distilled into a curriculum that provides students with a profound understanding of energy healing techniques and powerful tools for self development. Students are taught how to use Reiki confidently, to treat any condition, chronic or acute, in all living things. Easy to learn and effective meditation practices are presented in order to help accelerate the student’s own spiritual evolution and define his or her own sense of purpose.

Over time, The John Harvey Gray Center for Reiki Healing has become recognized and acknowledged as a leader in the field of Reiki training and energy healing. In addition to its commitment to excellence in Reiki education, it also serves as a platform from which John Harvey Gray and Dr. Lourdes Gray have developed and launched several important works, including their Reiki book Hand to Hand, the audio cassette tape "Takata Speaks: Volume 1," (the first in a series of live recordings), and a CD by John Harvey Gray containing his ground-breaking theory on "Emotionality and the Chakras" and a "Balancing Meditation." Anyone interested in Reiki will find these Reiki products to be an invaluable source of information and learning.

We Believe …

In these evolutionary times, we believe that we are being called to Oneness. In heeding that call, we are One Reiki Family. We honor all Reiki lineages. Reiki is energy and energy is dynamic, ever-changing and transforming. We recognize that there is still much to be learned in the field of bioenergetics and the body’s capacity to heal. Reiki must remain dynamic and willing to grow, based on continuing research and experience. At the same time, we hold the firm belief that the Reiki system as developed by Mikao Usui, and passed down to Chujiro Hayashi and Hawayo Takata, must be preserved. We must use their teachings as the building blocks upon which we can continue to grow as One Reiki Family, to bring much-needed healing to the people, the animals and the Earth.
